Lethbridge residents can enjoy a day of free live music on Saturday, August 29, when the Lethbridge Folk Club brings its inaugural Porchfest to the historic London Road neighbourhood.
The family-friendly event runs from noon to 7 p.m., with six different artists playing one-hour sets in the front yards of six different homes. The day wraps up with a grand finale concert at Kinsmen Park at 7:30 p.m.
Among the performers is Joshua Beebe and the Forest Orchestra, a Taber-based group highlighted by local radio station 98.1 The Ranch. Beebe won a songwriting competition at the South Country Fair in 2019 and writes songs about healing, love, and the people he has met. The station has been promoting Porchfest through its Made and Played in Canada segment.
Porchfest is a walkable event, with performances staggered throughout the day so people can explore the neighbourhood. The concept has been popular in Medicine Hat for more than six years, and the Folk Club is now bringing it to Lethbridge.
The Lethbridge Folk Club has been bringing live music to southern Alberta since 1979. The club is working with community partners like the Interfaith Food Bank, the League of YQL Neighbourhoods, and the Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge to make this year’s event happen.
