The City of Mount Pearl has released its audited financial statements for 2025, showing an annual surplus of $5.9 million. The statements, which cover the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, are now available on the city’s budget page.
According to the 2025 Consolidated Financial Statements, the city brought in $67,364,268 in revenue while spending $61,415,356. The $5,948,912 surplus is down slightly from the $6,704,749 surplus recorded in 2024.
Taxes and utility fees remained the biggest source of revenue at $51,811,700, up from $49,665,441 the year before. The city’s largest expenses were transportation services at $14,977,736, general government services at $14,901,348, and community services at $13,946,603.
The city’s accumulated surplus now sits at $210,642,738. Long-term debt dropped to $23,799,813 from $25,102,694 a year earlier, thanks in part to $1.3 million in principal payments made during the year.
BDO Canada LLP audited the statements and gave an unqualified opinion on July 7, 2026. An unqualified opinion means the auditor found the financial statements to be presented fairly. The statements were approved by Mayor Dave Aker and CAO Cassie Rideout.
The statements also note several outstanding legal claims against the city, including employment and council-related matters, as well as a $452,518 claim from a supplier tied to a public works project.
