Collingwood pet owners now have a new option for emergency and specialized animal care, with the opening of the Collingwood Animal Referral and Emergency Centre at 100 Pretty River Parkway. The facility celebrated its ribbon-cutting on August 8, 2026, attended by Deputy Mayor Tim Fryer and Councillors Kathy Jeffery and Christopher Baines.
The new clinic, founded by board-certified veterinary surgeon Dr. Seanna Swayne, offers 24/7 emergency services, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, CT imaging, X-ray, ultrasound, and end-of-life care. It is described as the first dedicated emergency and referral veterinary hospital in Collingwood, serving pet owners and referring veterinarians across Simcoe County, Grey County, Bruce County, Muskoka, Barrie, and surrounding areas.
Dr. Swayne brings nearly two decades of surgical experience to the new centre. A graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, she achieved board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2013. She previously operated Golden Horseshoe Veterinary Surgery, a mobile surgical service that stopped providing services on June 18, 2025, as she transitioned to the permanent Collingwood facility.
The opening comes as the region faces growing demand for veterinary care. Collingwood has seen significant population growth, and the area previously had limited emergency veterinary options. The Barrie emergency clinic had long been the only veterinary ER north of Newmarket until recent additions in the region.
The CARE team also includes lead emergency veterinarians Dr. Meg Anderson, who was born and raised in Collingwood, and Dr. Dominique Monaghan, along with practice manager Chelsea Smyth. With its 24/7 emergency services, the new centre aims to provide timely specialized care for pets across South Georgian Bay and beyond.
