Ponoka and Bashaw farmers will see expanded crop input services after UFA Co-operative completed its acquisition of Ponoka Fertilizer Ltd. on August 7, 2026.
Ponoka Fertilizer has provided fertilizer, crop protection products, and agronomy services to agricultural producers for more than 25 years. The existing team will continue day-to-day operations, now with access to UFA’s broader network of crop inputs, agronomy, and resources.
Dan Lea, owner of Ponoka Fertilizer, said the transition ensures business continuity while creating new opportunities. “UFA shares our commitment to supporting producers. Fred Thun, President and CEO of UFA, called the acquisition a strong fit. “Ponoka Fertilizer has built a highly respected business with deep roots in the community,” Thun said.
The acquisition is part of UFA’s 2026 expansion strategy, which included a $48.2 million deal for AgraCity Crop & Nutrition Ltd. assets in April and recent entries into Saskatchewan and Manitoba. UFA is an Alberta-based agricultural co-operative with more than 125,000 member-owners, over 125 petroleum locations, 35 Farm & Ranch Supply stores, and over 1,100 employees.
