Behchokǫ̀, NT residents can look forward to a stretch of warm, sunny weather this week after smoke from regional wildfires lingers through Monday. The Weather Network says temperatures will climb from 19°C on Monday afternoon to 22°C by Tuesday, with the clearest conditions expected mid-week.
Smoke from nearby wildfires is currently affecting the community, but it is expected to clear as the week progresses. Tuesday through Thursday will bring mainly sunny or partly cloudy conditions with afternoon highs near 20°C, making it the best window for outdoor plans.
A weather system is expected to bring showery conditions from Friday into the weekend, with the highest rain risk on Monday, August 24, when there is a 60 percent chance of showers. Up to 5 mm of rain is possible that day, with temperatures hovering around 20°C.
The Northwest Territories has experienced a severe wildfire season this year, with 275 fires burning over 1.39 million hectares as of August 12, according to 2026 Canadian wildfires data. That is six times the 25-year average area burned for the territory.
Residents are advised to check local air quality and plan activities for the clearest days mid-week, when smoke is expected to be at its lowest.
