Drivers in Bracebridge and the surrounding area should plan for delays as the District Municipality of Muskoka carries out extensive road work on multiple routes during the week of August 17 to 21, with ongoing projects continuing through summer and fall.
According to the District Municipality of Muskoka, crews are carrying out Full Depth Reclamation with Expanded Asphalt Mix (FDREAM) on Muskoka Road 12 (Twelve Mile Bay Road), Muskoka Road 13 (Southwood Road), and Muskoka Road 51 (Echo Lake Road), while slurry seal work is planned on Muskoka Road 8 and South Camp Road. Microsurfacing is planned for Muskoka Road 118 and Muskoka Road 38 (Kanien’kehá:ka Iohatátie).
Single-lane closures managed by flagging operations will be in effect during working hours on affected roads. All lanes will reopen to two-way traffic outside of working hours, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
The FDREAM method extends the service life of roads by 10 to 15 years, reduces construction timelines, and minimizes disruption to residents, according to the District. The current work is part of a broader investment program; since 2022, the District has invested $117 million in roads and transportation infrastructure.
