Sarnia, Ontario is hiring residents to work as paid election officials for the October 26, 2026 municipal election.
The City of Sarnia announced August 14 that applications are open for four roles: Deputy Returning Officer at $375 per day, Revision Clerk at $350, Tabulator Operator at $350, and Greeter at $300. All positions require attendance at an in-person training session and working the full voting day. Workers must arrive by 8:30 a.m. to help set up, and voting places operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Each role reports to the Voting Place Supervisor.
To apply, you must be at least 18 years old on election day and legally entitled to work in Canada. Candidates, registered third-party advertisers, their immediate family members, and anyone actively campaigning for or against a candidate are not eligible.

In the last municipal election in 2022, 21,882 of 54,148 eligible voters cast ballots, a 40.41 percent turnout. The city used nine in-person voting places plus a Voter Help Centre at City Hall. This year, Sarnia will also offer an 11-day internet voting period in addition to paper ballots on election day.
