Three more candidates have filed to run for one of six City Councillor seats in Pembroke, Ontario, bringing the total to 12 people seeking a spot around the council table in the October 26 municipal election.
According to the City of Pembroke‘s Unofficial List of Nominations, Patrick Mulroy filed on August 4, Dez Bair-Patel filed on August 7, and incumbent Troy Purcell filed on August 10. A fourth candidate, Kanungnit (Nita) Polsri-Muth, filed on August 11.
Purcell was first elected in 2022 and is seeking another term. Bair-Patel is a longtime member of the team at the Integrated Health Centre in Pembroke. The nomination period closes on Friday, August 21 at 2 p.m., so more names could still be added.
For mayor, five candidates have filed, including incumbent Ron Gervais and Deputy Mayor Brian Abdallah. Stephanie LeMay, Griffith James Slaughter, and Bill Michaelis are also in the race.
Residents can learn more about the candidates at two public debates hosted at Festival Hall @ L’Équinoxe. The mayoral debate is set for September 22, and the council debate is set for September 29. Both start at 7 p.m.
Voting begins October 16 at 10 a.m. and closes October 26 at 8 p.m.
