Carstairs, AB will see a notable shift toward warm and sunny conditions this week following a Sunday that carried a widespread risk of severe thunderstorms, according to Environment Canada.
As of Monday, August 24, no weather alerts remain in effect for the area. The forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures rising from 24°C on Monday and Tuesday to 28°C on Wednesday and 29°C on Thursday. Friday will stay sunny but slightly cooler at 22°C.
The calm stretch comes after severe thunderstorms were expected across much of Alberta on Sunday, August 23, with the potential for large hail and damaging wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h.
Current conditions observed at the Olds station near Carstairs on Monday showed a temperature of 21.4°C with northwest winds at 24 km/h and humidity at 43%. The UV index is rated 6, or high, meaning residents spending time outdoors should use sun protection.
Overnight lows will be sharp, with Monday night expected to drop to 4°C and bring a risk of frost. The warmup continues through midweek before another change arrives next weekend, when Saturday carries a 60% chance of showers and a high of only 17°C, followed by a mix of sun and cloud on Sunday with a high of 18°C.
