Spruce Grove City Council has approved the purchase of the vacant former Good Samaritan seniors facility at 415 King Street for $2.4 million. The decision was made during the regular council meeting on August 17, 2026. The property, which sits on 1.69 acres in the City Centre district next to City Hall, was listed for sale earlier this year.
The former care centre operated for over two decades before becoming vacant and was marketed by Avison Young as a 30-room seniors facility with roughly 23,830 square feet of building space. The City has not yet announced specific plans for the building, but council materials state it will be repurposed for future municipal use.
In a separate move supporting affordable housing, council approved transferring $2,047,000 from the Operating Project Reserve to the Meridian Housing Foundation for the Spruce Grove Affordable Housing Project. Council also agreed to transfer a City-owned land parcel at 230 Spruce Ridge Road to Meridian Housing Foundation for $1, subject to completion of all required agreements and approvals.
Meridian Housing Foundation provides seniors and low-income housing across the Tri-Municipal Region, operating nine buildings in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County. The foundation is currently building Horizon View Lodge, a 102-unit supportive living facility at 404 Calahoo Road expected to welcome residents in November 2026.
Mayor Jeff Acker and councillors Spencer Bennett, Danielle Carter, Jan Gillett, Brad Mastaler, Erin Stevenson, and Jeff Tokar voted on the measures. Details on council decisions can be found on the City of Spruce Grove website.
