The Jess Hann Branch of Oshawa Public Libraries will close for about five weeks starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for interior renovations ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2027.
Located at 199 Wentworth Street West in south Oshawa, the branch is getting a refresh described by the library as an interior “glow-up.” The work will prepare the facility for its golden anniversary, following a similar renovation in 2007 for its 30th year.
Patrons who use the Jess Hann Branch can pick up their holds there until September 3 at 5 p.m. After that, items will be available at the McLaughlin Branch. Holds can also be paused until the Jess Hann Branch reopens.
During the closure, residents are encouraged to visit other Oshawa Public Libraries locations: McLaughlin Branch at 65 Debwewin Miikan, John Aker Northview Branch at 250 Beatrice Street East, and Delpark Homes Centre Branch at 1661 Harmony Road North. A kiosk at Civic, 99 Thornton Road South, offers book lending and returns.
The closure was announced on August 18, 2026, on the Oshawa Public Libraries website. The Fall 2026 Program Guide lists programs that will relocate during the closure, including Family Story Time, Ukrainian Story Time, Creative Writing Circle, and Climate Action crafts.
The Jess Hann Branch opened on March 1, 1977, and was named in memory of Jess Hann, father of benefactor Robert P. Hann, who provided space in Lake Vista Square Plaza for the library.
