Owen Sound Police Service arrested 11 people during a two-day drug enforcement operation in downtown Owen Sound on September 2 and 3, 2026. The initiative targeted public drug use and trafficking in the River District, an area that generates roughly 30 per cent of all calls to the police service.
Members of the Criminal Investigations Branch, Drug Enforcement Unit and C.O.R.E. Unit conducted proactive enforcement using both uniform and plainclothes officers. Charges were laid in relation to offences involving fentanyl and methamphetamine, and officers seized quantities of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine.
During the operation, officers encountered an unresponsive middle-aged man experiencing a drug-related medical emergency. They administered a dose of Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, and the man regained consciousness. Police credited officer training and preparedness for the lifesaving response.
This is the third major downtown drug enforcement operation in 2026. Earlier initiatives in March and May resulted in nine and eight arrests respectively. The police service has intensified its focus on street-level drug activity as downtown safety concerns have grown among business owners and residents.
