The Owen Sound Police Service is looking to fill three positions at once, including two police officer roles and a part-time clerk job.
The service posted the openings on August 13, 2026: a Recruit Police Constable, a Full-Time Experienced Police Constable, and a Part-Time Data Entry Clerk. According to the Owen Sound Police Service, the recruit posting is meant to fill both current and future positions.
The Part-Time Data Entry Clerk pays $28.28 per hour and applications close August 30, 2026. Sworn constable salaries range from $60,549.73 for a cadet to $121,099.46 for a first-class constable.
This hiring push comes as Owen Sound faces rising crime and a heavy workload for officers. The city has recorded the highest total crime rate among comparable Ontario municipalities for two straight years, and its officers carry the second-highest criminal workload per officer among similar-sized services. The number of budgeted police officer positions has stayed at 41 since 2009, even though reported crime in Owen Sound has more than doubled over the past decade.
The service also employs more than 50 civilian staff in roles like dispatchers, records clerks, and administrative support. The new clerical posting suggests the data entry workload continues to grow.
Police services across Ontario have struggled to recruit, with applications dropping 31 per cent between 2021 and 2022. In response, the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police launched the Answer the Call campaign in 2025 to help fill critical roles.
