Residents in Collingwood will see three new pedestrian crossovers installed on Cameron Street and Birch Street, with construction beginning the week of August 31, 2026, and expected to wrap up by December 2026.
According to the Town of Collingwood, the new crossings will be located mid-block on Cameron Street between Birch Street and Maple Street, at the intersection of Cameron Street and Maple Street, and at the intersection of Birch Street and Tenth Street.
Drivers should expect minor traffic disruptions during the work, with one lane closed at a time and flaggers directing traffic as needed. Construction signage will be in place throughout the construction period.
Pedestrian crossovers, or PXOs, are designated crossing areas where drivers and cyclists are legally required to stop and yield the entire roadway to pedestrians waiting to cross or already in the crosswalk. The new crosswalks are part of Collingwood’s ongoing investment in safer streets and active transportation, funded through the 2026 Municipal Budget, which Council adopted in January 2026.
The budget also includes road resurfacing on more than 30 sections of road, renewal of Sixth Street including underground services and improved active transportation, and enhanced trail maintenance. Mayor Yvonne Hamlin said the budget balances infrastructure investments and public safety without a significant increase to taxpayers.
