Bridgewater police are cracking down on loud vehicles in town, responding to resident complaints about revving engines and excessive muffler noise, especially late at night.
The Bridgewater Police Service announced the enforcement push on September 9, 2026. Chief Scott Feener says officers are asking the public for help identifying vehicles and problem areas.
Residents can report loud vehicles by calling the non-emergency line at 902-543-2464, providing details such as the vehicle’s make, model, licence plate number, direction of travel, and a description of the driver.
Police say they are aware of illegal modifications to motorcycles and passenger vehicles that cause excessive noise. Under Nova Scotia’s Motor Vehicle Act, motorists with poorly functioning mufflers or illegal modifications can be ticketed.
The law requires motorcycles to be equipped with a muffler in good working order and without cut-outs to prevent excessive and unusual noise.
Chief Feener has led the Bridgewater Police Service since October 2018 and has more than 30 years of policing experience.
This effort follows similar crackdowns in other Canadian cities, including Calgary and Toronto, where police have also targeted noisy vehicles in 2026.
