Work to replace aging sewer lines under Main Street in Niverville, Manitoba is set to begin this November, with the project going out for tender in September. The project targets the 311 West corridor and aims to prevent costly breaks in pipes that date back to the late 1960s.
According to the Town of Niverville, designs for the sewer replacement are finalized. The work was discussed at the August 18, 2026 council meeting, where the plan was confirmed to go out for tender in September with a November start date.
The existing clay sewer lines were installed in the late 1960s and have deteriorated significantly. Camera inspections showed cracks being held together largely by soil, raising concerns about imminent breaks that could force local businesses to close. To minimize disruption, most of the replacement work will be done through horizontal drilling rather than open excavation.
The Town of Niverville awarded the detailed design contract to Associated Engineering (Sask.) Ltd. for $33,050 plus GST in June 2026. The project is part of a broader $3.1 million allocation for sewer utility improvements in the 2026 budget.
Motorists can expect some traffic disruption along Main Street once construction begins. The proactive replacement is part of Niverville’s response to rapid growth that has put pressure on aging infrastructure throughout the community.
