The 9th Annual Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools (WRPS) Golf Tournament raised more than $24,000 for student programs, the division announced. The event was held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Montgomery Glen Golf Club in Wetaskiwin.
The funds will support the Education Plus Fund, which helps remove financial barriers that may prevent students from participating in educational, extracurricular and enrichment opportunities, and the Hungry Students Fund, which supports nutrition initiatives for students. The money also goes to other student programs across the division.
Among the schools benefiting is Wetaskiwin Composite High School, which serves approximately 848 students in grades 9 to 12. The tournament also supports other schools in Wetaskiwin, Millet and the rural County of Wetaskiwin.
The tournament was organized with support from community members Simone Bredlow and Melissa Maygard. It has grown from a ladies-only event to a co-ed tournament, with more participants and funds raised each year. For example, the 6th annual tournament raised over $12,000, meaning this year’s total more than doubled that amount in three years.
WRPS operates approximately 19 school sites under Superintendent and CEO Mike Wake. Community fundraising efforts like the golf tournament supplement tax-funded education budgets and help ensure all students can access opportunities.
