Overnight lows, however, will dip to 4°C by Wednesday night, which is right at the frost threshold for the area. Environment Canada’s regional forecast for nearby communities like Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, and Sundre already includes a risk of frost for tonight, though High River itself is expected to stay milder at 8°C.
Historically, High River’s first fall frost falls between September 11 and 20, according to PlantMaps, and the Old Farmer’s Almanac reports an even earlier average first frost of August 14. With the growing season in High River lasting only about 57 days, residents are reminded to protect sensitive plants as overnight temperatures approach the freezing mark.
The sunny stretch comes to an end Thursday, when increasing cloudiness keeps the high around 18°C, about 4 degrees cooler than Wednesday. No weather alerts are currently in effect for High River, but residents should watch for updates as conditions change.
