Olds Fire Department responded to 149 calls in the first half of 2026, a 65.6 percent increase from the 90 calls during the same period in 2025. The numbers were part of the Protective Services second-quarter report presented to Olds Town Council on September 14.
Council accepted the report for information, which also showed fire prevention staff completed 324 inspections by the end of the second quarter.
The department serves Olds, Alberta, with a full-time fire chief, two full-time deputy fire chiefs, a part-time fire prevention officer, administrative support, and about 50 paid on-call firefighters. In 2025, the town had a population of 9,679.
In a separate move at the same meeting, council appointed Warren Wright as Deputy Director of Emergency Management effective September 14. Wright joins the department’s leadership team, where one deputy fire chief also serves as Director of Emergency Management.
The Olds Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency response services for the town and surrounding areas through agreements with Mountain View County.
