The Raymond Irrigation District has announced that irrigation water will be cut off for the 2026 season on Thursday, October 8. Farmers and rural water-users in the Welling, Raymond, and Stirling areas are being asked to fill their ponds and dugouts before that date.
The Raymond Irrigation District serves over 300 water-users across more than 52,000 acres of irrigated farmland in the region. The shut-off marks the end of the growing season for those who rely on RID-supplied water for crops, livestock, or property use.
This year’s shut-off date is in line with typical seasonal patterns and comes after a more favourable growing season. Water supplies in southern Alberta were strong in 2026 due to above-normal mountain snowpack and improved reservoir levels, providing relief compared to recent drought years.
The district, which has been serving the area since 1925, continues to operate as a cost-effective water supplier under the Alberta Irrigation Districts Act. Anyone with questions about the shut-off or the need to fill ponds and dugouts can contact the district office.
