The Town of Ajax is inviting young residents to celebrate National Youth Week from May 1 to May 7, 2026, with a variety of free activities held across local community centres. The annual event, which began in Canada in 1995, aims to highlight the contributions and active participation of youth aged 10 to 18 in the community.
Throughout the week, residents can participate in several free programs, including drop-in basketball, skateboarding basics, and paint and design workshops. Young people are also encouraged to visit Youth Spaces located at the Ajax Community Centre, the McLean Community Centre, and the Audley Recreation Centre. These spaces provide areas for youth to play pool, ping pong, and foosball, or use TVs and video game consoles.
In addition to the week of activities, the town recognizes outstanding young people through the Youth Excellence Awards. These awards celebrate youth aged 12 to 18 who have made a significant positive impact in their schools, communities, and beyond. While the deadline for nominations passed on April 12, 2026, the community will gather to honour the recipients at an awards ceremony.
The recognition ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Audley Recreation Centre. During this event, Mayor Shaun Collier and members of the Town Council will present personalized certificates to the award winners.
