The Ajax Public Library in Ajax, Ontario, is preparing to recognize local students who participated in a youth poetry contest focused on community and the future. The winners will be officially announced during a special event on March 27, 2026.
The contest was held to mark Black History Month with the theme “The Next Ten: Our Village.” It was open to students from grade 4 through grade 12 to encourage young people to share their creative writing with the community.
The submission window for the contest ended on February 28, 2026, after a month of collecting entries from local youth. The library organized the competition into three categories for students in grades 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12.
Winners will receive their recognition at the library’s event for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This project was supported by the library’s Teen Advisory Committee and the partner organization Cultural Expressions for CHANGE.
