The Town of Ajax is hosting a free workshop on April 14, 2026, to help seniors learn more about managing diabetes and maintaining their overall health. The event, which is part of the local 55+ Let’s Do Lunch program series, will provide attendees with helpful resources and a presentation led by experts from Diabetes Canada.
The session will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ajax Seniors Club at the Pickering Village Senior Centre, located at 29 Linton Avenue. Sponsored by Chartwell Retirement Residences, the workshop offers a space for local residents to connect, socialize, and gather important health information.
With nearly 11.5 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes, and roughly 18 percent of those aged 60 to 79 currently affected by the condition, this workshop addresses a growing community need. The initiative aligns with a broader push for better healthcare access in the area, following a February 2026 provincial announcement that will expand the capacity of the The Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre in nearby Whitby.
As the senior population in Ajax continues to grow—with estimates projecting that older adults will represent nearly one-third of the community by 2031—the town remains focused on providing age-friendly programs.
