Residents in Ajax, Ontario, who are interested in running for local office can begin filing their nominations starting May 1, 2026. The Town of Ajax officially opened the process for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections, which will determine the next council and school board trustees to serve a four-year term from November 15, 2026, to November 14, 2030.
According to the Notice of Nominations signed by Municipal Clerk and Returning Officer Jaclyn Grossi, the nomination period will remain open until 2 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026. Anyone planning to run must file their paperwork in person at the Ajax Town Hall, located at 65 Harwood Ave S. Candidates are required to book an appointment online to complete their filing.
To qualify as a candidate for the municipal council, individuals must submit a nomination form, pay a filing fee—$200 for those running for Mayor and $100 for other positions—and provide 25 endorsements signed by eligible electors. The town reminds potential candidates that they may not accept any campaign contributions or incur election-related expenses until after their nomination form has been officially filed.
Following the nomination process, residents will head to the polls to vote via internet or telephone. The voting period is set to run from October 19, 2026, at 10 a.m. through October 26, 2026, at 8 p.m. Further information on the election process can be found on the town’s dedicated election website.
