Amherstburg residents are invited to a free Truth and Reconciliation Gathering on Saturday, September 26 from noon to 4 p.m. at King’s Navy Yard Park. The event, held the Saturday before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, will feature Indigenous cultural demonstrations, children’s activities, and a vendor market beside the Detroit River.
Organized in partnership with Ska:na Family Learning Centre, an Indigenous non-profit that has served Windsor-Essex families since 2003, the gathering will include drumming, dancing, and storytelling led by Elders and community speakers. Children’s activities will take place at a teepee, and Indigenous vendors will sell products in the park.
This marks the third annual gathering in Amherstburg, following events in September 2024 and 2025. The timing leads into the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, established in 2021 after the discovery of unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia.
The event is free and open to everyone. King’s Navy Yard Park is located at 242 Dalhousie Street, overlooking the Detroit River on Amherstburg’s waterfront.
