Residents of Antigonish can expect a significant jump in temperatures this week as a warm, humid air mass moves across the Maritimes. While local conditions on the evening of May 19, 2026, remained cool at 13.4°C, warmer weather is moving into the region.
According to Environment Canada, Wednesday, May 20, will see temperatures climb to a high of 29°C. With a humidex value of 34, the weather will feel considerably warmer than the seasonal average high of 16°C. The forecast also includes a 30 percent chance of evening showers and winds from the southwest gusting up to 40 km/h.
This spike in heat is the result of a moisture surge from the Gulf, which The Weather Network notes is triggering scattered thunderstorms and elevated humidity across the region. Despite the unsettled pattern, there are currently no active weather alerts in effect for the Antigonish area.
The unseasonable heat will be short-lived, with temperatures expected to return to seasonal norms in the low teens by Thursday. Historically, May is the driest month for the community, which typically sees average daily lows near 5°C this time of year.
