Antigonish, Nova Scotia, is in for a brief taste of summer this week as temperatures climb into the mid-20s, according to Environment Canada. After a foggy start Monday, the weather is expected to turn warm and mostly dry for a couple of days before cooling off with rain by the weekend.
Monday will remain mainly cloudy with a high of 18°C and a 30 per cent chance of afternoon showers. Fog patches that hung around through the morning are expected to clear by early afternoon. Wind will come from the southeast at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h.
The real warm-up arrives mid-week. Wednesday and Thursday are both forecast to reach 26°C under a mix of sun and cloud. These temperatures are well above the June average high of 20°C for Antigonish, offering a welcome stretch for outdoor activities.
The pleasant conditions won’t last long. By Friday, showers arrive with a high of 24°C, and Saturday brings a 60 per cent chance of showers with a high of just 19°C. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the area.
At the Tracadie weather station, about 18 kilometres southeast of town, conditions at 2:00 p.m. Monday showed 15°C, southeast winds gusting to 32 km/h, and humidity at 89 per cent—typical for a coastal morning that hasn’t fully burned off. Environment Canada says the foggy starts and warming afternoons are a common pattern for early summer along the Northumberland Shore.
