Antigonish, Nova Scotia, is in for a week of warm, sunny weather, with temperatures climbing well above normal and peaking at 30°C on Thursday, July 9, 2026, according to Environment Canada. That’s about 7 degrees above the usual July high of 23°C, so residents should plan for some real heat.
The week started with some morning fog on Monday, but skies cleared up to sunshine. Tuesday will be sunny with a high of 28°C and a humidex of 31, making it feel even warmer. The UV index is also forecast to hit 8, or ‘very high,’ on Tuesday, so anyone outside between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. should slather on SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, wear a hat and protective clothing, and stick to the shade when possible.
Thursday is expected to be the hottest day, with a mix of sun and cloud and the high reaching 30°C. Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says people should try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, drink lots of water, and keep blinds closed to stop homes from heating up. ‘Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day, but I know that’s not always possible for people — drink lots of water, replace fluids if you feel thirsty,’ Hubbard said. ‘Try to keep blinds and shades drawn to keep sunlight out of your home.’
Heat warnings have been posted for parts of Nova Scotia, though Antigonish itself is not under an active alert. The humidex in Antigonish is expected to be a bit lower than in some other parts of the province, where it could feel like 36°C to 42°C. In Nova Scotia, heat warnings are triggered when daytime highs hit 29°C for two days in a row, which means extra care is needed for older people, young kids, and those with health issues.
Friday brings a break from the sun, with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high near 27°C. The weekend will settle down, with Saturday looking like a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 22°C. While this isn’t record-breaking heat — Antigonish’s all-time high of 37.8°C was set back on August 12, 1944 — it’s still a good stretch for getting outside earlier in the week, as long as everyone stays sun-safe and hydrated.
