Residents in Aurora can look forward to clear skies this evening, providing an ideal opportunity to view the Full Flower Moon. According to The Weather Network, there are no active weather alerts in the community, and skies are expected to clear as the evening progresses.
While the moon officially reaches peak illumination at 1:23 p.m. EDT on Friday, May 1, 2026, it will appear full throughout the night. Those heading outside to stargaze should prepare for cold conditions, as Environment Canada reports an overnight low of -2°C, with a wind chill that may make it feel closer to -6°C.
The name Flower Moon comes from traditions of the Algonquin and Anishinaabe peoples, marking the time when flowers begin to bloom across North America. Observers may notice that tonight’s moon appears slightly smaller and dimmer than usual; it is a micromoon, meaning it is currently at its farthest point from Earth in its orbit.
This full moon is the first of two occurring this month. A second full moon, known as a Blue Moon, will take place on May 31. This is a relatively rare event that occurs once every two to three years.
