A vehicle crashed into the front window of Kino Szushi Japanese Restaurant in north-end Barrie on Monday, March 30, 2026. The incident occurred around 12:50 p.m. at 359 Bayfield Street, near Cundles Road West, during the lunch hour.
The vehicle, which appears to be a Volkswagen Golf, became lodged in the restaurant window following the collision. Emergency crews, including the Barrie Police Service and the local fire department, responded to the scene to assist. Authorities have confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
This event follows another collision involving a restaurant in the city. In September 2025, a vehicle struck Rooh’s Berlin Doner and Kebab at 1 Dunlop Street East, an incident where the driver left the area before officers arrived.
The city currently manages road safety through several initiatives. The City of Barrie maintains an active traffic calming program that utilizes tools like radar speed signs and speed cushions in residential areas. Additionally, the Ministry of Transportation has proposed major infrastructure work for the Bayfield Street corridor, which includes replacing the Highway 400 bridge and interchange. Those improvements are expected to reach the area from Grove Street to Cundles Road, with work potentially beginning in 2027.
