Blackfalds, Alberta is facing a rising flood risk as heavy rain continues to fall on June 1, 2026, with another 30 to 70 mm expected before the system moves out Tuesday morning. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a Yellow Warning for rainfall at 10:48 a.m. MDT, urging residents to stay alert and avoid flooded areas.
According to The Weather Network, Blackfalds currently sits at 8 degrees Celsius with a 100 per cent chance of precipitation, feeling like 4 degrees. Winds are blowing from the north at 32 km/h, and humidity is at 97 per cent. Forecasters call for 40 to 50 mm of rain today alone.
The warning stresses that water will pool on roads and in low-lying spots. Drivers should not go through flooded streets, and everyone should keep an eye out for washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts. The storm total for this event is expected to hit 50 to 100 mm across most of the region, with some spots east of Edmonton possibly picking up as much as 150 mm.
The long stretch of rain is being fed by moisture drawn from the Gulf of Mexico, a setup that has already caused localized flooding elsewhere in Alberta. In the mountains, rising river levels have forced trail and area closures at Lake Louise.
Red Deer County, which includes Blackfalds, has been under a rainfall warning since Saturday, May 31, after a special weather statement first flagged the risk on Friday. The rain is expected to lighten by Tuesday morning, but until then, residents in low-lying areas should take steps to protect their property and stay safe.
