Residents in Blackfalds should prepare for difficult travel conditions this morning as a yellow fog advisory remains in effect for the town and surrounding Lacombe County.
According to Environment Canada, patchy fog is creating near-zero visibility in many locations throughout the region. While the fog is expected to gradually dissipate later this morning, early commuters are urged to use caution on local roads and highways. Observations recorded at the Red Deer Regional Airport early this morning showed visibility at just 0.2 kilometres with temperatures hovering around -7.4°C and a wind chill of -9.
Once the fog clears, conditions are expected to improve throughout the day, shifting to a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 8°C. A light wind of up to 15 kilometres per hour is anticipated, and there remains a 30 percent chance of flurries during the early morning hours.
The weekend will bring a mix of conditions to the area. Saturday is expected to be mainly sunny with a high of 6°C, though clouds will increase in the afternoon with a 30 percent chance of showers. Sunday will be cooler and cloudier with a high of 1°C and a 40 percent chance of flurries.
Drivers are reminded that recent weather has caused challenges in the broader region. While heavy snow impacted areas further south in Mountain View County earlier this week, residents should continue to check 511 Alberta for the most up-to-date information on road conditions. The upcoming week looks to remain unsettled, with a mix of showers and flurries forecasted between Monday and Thursday.
