A new affordable housing building in Bracebridge has opened its doors at 100 Pine Street, bringing 44 rental units to seniors and people living with disabilities in Muskoka. The four-storey development includes 11 studio apartments and 33 one-bedroom apartments, with rents set below $1,100 per month to help those on community housing waitlists.
The District of Muskoka marked the official opening on June 15, 2026. The $15 million project sits next to McVittie Place, an 80-unit seniors’ building the district finished in 2011, and is close to public transit, walking trails and local shops.
Funding came from all three levels of government. The federal government provided $8.6 million through its Affordable Housing Fund, the Province of Ontario contributed through the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative and Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative, and the district committed $4 million plus an annual operating subsidy of nearly $300,000. Rents for most units fall between $500 and $900 a month, and 10 apartments are income-based.
This is one of the first projects completed under the district’s Big Move on Housing strategy, an eight-year plan with up to $35.125 million set aside for tackling homelessness and boosting affordable housing. District Chair Jeff Lehman said the district has tripled the number of affordable units built in the past three years.
The opening comes as applications for rent-geared-to-income housing in Muskoka have jumped 44 per cent between the end of 2023 and early 2026. Some seniors have waited as long as 10 years for a spot. The new building at 100 Pine Street is designed to ease that pressure, giving more residents a safe and stable place to call home.
