A Bracebridge resident has set a new record for local philanthropy after providing his second $1 million donation to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation in March 2026. Bob Jacob, who has been a hospital donor since 1980, has now contributed a cumulative total of more than $2.2 million to the organization, making him the largest living donor in the foundation’s history.
Jacob, a retired investor who moved to Bracebridge full-time in 2000, made both of his recent million-dollar gifts using publicly traded securities. He noted that the stocks, which were originally purchased at approximately $2 per share, provided a tax-efficient way to support local healthcare. The funds are designated to pay for immediate equipment needs at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, rather than future hospital development projects.
In recognition of this support, the hospital has named its visitor entrance atrium in honour of Bob and his late wife, Lynn Jacob. Lynn was a dedicated community volunteer, and the dedication serves as a lasting tribute to the couple’s involvement in the region.
Beyond his contributions to the hospital, Jacob is a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Bracebridge. His commitment to the organization is well-known, as he previously received the group’s Frank Miller Trophy for serving as their top ticket seller for 16 consecutive years.
The foundation, which operates under Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare, relies on such community contributions to maintain care standards at the facility. Jacob has stated that he hopes his actions will encourage other residents to consider how they might support local healthcare services.
