A water safety warning remains in effect for Bracebridge and the surrounding region through March 13, 2026, as provincial officials monitor rising water levels caused by rain and melting snow. The alert, issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources (Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound District) on March 6, is intended to protect residents from dangerous conditions near local rivers and lakes as the spring thaw begins.
While water levels are currently at or below the usual targets for this time of year, officials expect them to increase. Forecasts show more rain and continued melting snow will likely cause local waterways to swell and conditions to change rapidly.
The ministry is advising everyone to stay away from any ice-covered water because no ice in the area is considered safe right now. As the weather warms up, ice can thin and break without warning, making it dangerous for anyone to walk or play on.
Residents are also told to keep a safe distance from the banks of all frozen water bodies, including those in the nearby Township of Minden Hills. Shorelines can become slippery and unstable during this period of the year, which creates a high risk of falling into the cold water.
Provincial officials are continuing to monitor the local water systems and will update the community as the weather changes. This safety advisory is in effect until at least the end of the day on March 13, 2026.
