Residents in Bracebridge, Ontario, should prepare for a chilly start to the week before a significant warming trend arrives. According to Environment Canada, there is currently a weather alert in effect for the area.
Conditions remain cool as of Sunday morning, with a recorded temperature of 1.3°C at the Muskoka Airport. Tonight, the temperature is expected to drop to -6°C, with wind chill values making it feel like -12°C. There is also a 60 percent chance of flurries overnight.
The cold spell will persist through Monday night, which is expected to be clear with a low of -8°C. These temperatures remain below the typical April averages for the region, which usually see highs of 12°C and lows near 0°C.
A notable shift in the weather is expected by the end of the week. Temperatures will climb toward 16°C by Thursday, which will see a mix of sun and cloud. That warmer trend is expected to continue into Friday, though residents should keep an umbrella handy as there is a 30 percent chance of showers.
Earlier this spring, Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson noted that while the Muskoka region experienced colder-than-normal conditions, temperatures were expected to bounce back to seasonal levels toward the end of April. Official forecasts suggest the overall trend for April and May should be warmer than normal.
