Residents of Bracebridge should prepare for a sudden shift in the weather this week as a brief period of mild temperatures gives way to a risk of snow. According to Environment Canada, the community will see a high of 13°C on Thursday, April 9, which is about 4°C warmer than the typical seasonal high for this time of year.
The mild conditions will be short-lived, however, as a shift in the weather pattern is expected to follow. Friday, April 10, will see temperatures drop to a high of 5°C, accompanied by a 30% chance of snow or rain. This transition is part of a larger weather pattern identified by Instant Weather as a late-season system, which may bring 5 to 10 centimetres of snow accumulation to the area and push wind chills as low as -15°C.
This turn toward colder weather aligns with the spring outlook from The Weather Network, which predicts a sluggish start to the season for Ontario with periods of snow and ice potentially persisting through much of April. April is a transitional month in Bracebridge, with average daytime highs near 10°C and overnight lows around -2°C.
Given the unpredictable road conditions often associated with these spring temperature swings, safety experts and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation advise drivers to keep their winter tires on until temperatures are consistently above 7°C. As the region may not reach that threshold until later in the month, residents should remain cautious when traveling on potentially slippery roads during the change in weather.
