The City of Brantford and the Brant Tree Coalition are inviting residents to help plant 1,000 native trees and shrubs on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the Wayne Gretzky Parkway Trail, located south of Powerline Road.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to increase the city’s tree canopy. According to the city, the current tree canopy is approximately 21.5 per cent, based on a 2023 study. The municipality has set a long-term goal to reach 40 per cent coverage by 2050.
Volunteers will be supported by about 25 students from the e3 class at Pauline Johnson Collegiate and Vocational School, who will be on-site to help greet participants, provide planting instructions, and assist with tasks throughout the day. Participants are encouraged to bring their own shovels and gloves to help with the planting.
Free parking for the event will be available at the Jaycee Sports Park, located at 395 Dunsdon Street in Brantford.
Since the Brant Tree Coalition was established in 2005, the organization has helped plant more than 134,000 trees, shrubs, and pollinator plants across the community. The coalition began as an industry-led project at the former Apotex Pharmachem site in West Brant, where employees first started a tree nursery on vacant land.
