Drivers in Brantford should prepare for traffic delays later this month as the city proceeds with essential infrastructure upgrades. Single-lane closures will be in effect on Stanley Street, Dalhousie Street, and Colborne Street East from April 27 to April 30, 2026.
The closures are limited to the area between 10 Stanley Street and 384 Dalhousie Street and will take place daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. According to the City of Brantford, these restrictions are necessary to allow crews to safely conduct sewer and water work under a city-issued permit. While traffic will be restricted, local access to nearby properties will be maintained throughout the work period.
This construction is part of the ongoing Downtown Revitalization Project, a multi-year effort to modernize underground systems that are nearly 100 years old. The city is currently working to replace century-old water, sanitary, and storm systems, while also reconstructing local roads and sidewalks to support future growth and improve traffic safety.
The initiative represents a significant investment in the community, with the city dedicating $26 million to the downtown infrastructure program in 2026, alongside another $13 million specifically for road restoration. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, or consider alternate routes to avoid the construction zone.
