The Brant Community Healthcare System reached a significant milestone in finding a location for a new hospital to serve the Brantford-Brant region on March 16, 2026. This step brings the community closer to replacing aging medical infrastructure at Brantford General Hospital and the Willett Urgent Care Centre with modern facilities designed to improve local care.
The search process began in December 2025 with a public call for land, which invited property owners to submit potential sites for consideration. An independent group is now reviewing these submissions to determine which properties are the most suitable for a future hospital facility.
This group, known as the Site Identification Task Force, includes community members and representatives from the Six Nations of the Grand River and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. They are working to ensure the final site selection is fair and focuses on the needs of all residents across the region.
The task force plans to present its final recommendations for the best locations to the health system board of directors in the spring of 2026. This project has been a long-term goal for the community, as local leaders have been planning to upgrade the current hospital buildings for more than 15 years.
