Brantford police have charged a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl with assault following an investigation into an incident that gained attention after a video was shared on social media.
The Brantford Police Service announced the charges on July 29, 2026. Officers also identified an 11-year-old boy who would have been charged, but under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, children younger than 12 cannot be charged with a criminal offence.
Police are asking the public not to share images or videos of criminal incidents involving minors online. The Youth Criminal Justice Act protects the privacy of young people involved in the justice system, and sharing such content can harm victims and interfere with investigations.
This is not the first time Brantford police have dealt with youth assault videos circulating online. In October 2020, two teen girls, aged 13 and 14, were charged with assault after a father reported his 13-year-old daughter had been attacked in incidents that were filmed and shared on social media.
The identities of the youths involved are protected under the law.
