Bridgewater residents and contractors now have a single online place to apply for building and development permits across four neighboring municipalities. The Town of Bridgewater, the District of Lunenburg, the Town of Lunenburg, and the Region of Queens Municipality launched a shared regional e-permit portal on July 13, 2026, Nova Scotia.
Instead of dealing with separate paper processes at each town hall, people can create one account on the new Regional E-Permit Application Portal, upload documents or photos, and track their application status in real time from a computer or mobile device. The system is powered by OnCamino.
The change does not affect who inspects projects. Building inspections stay the same: the District of Lunenburg handles inspections there and in Bridgewater and Lunenburg, while the Region of Queens keeps its own inspection service.
To help people get started, municipal staff are running free drop-in sessions this week at local hardware stores. The final session takes place Friday, July 17, at 7 a.m. at Castle Building Centre in Blockhouse. Staff will help residents and contractors create their online accounts over coffee.
Paper forms and in-person counter service are not going away, and remain available at all four municipalities for anyone who prefers the traditional approach.
“This is a smart regional partnership that improves service, reduces duplication, and helps us use municipal resources more efficiently,” said District of Lunenburg Mayor Elspeth McLean-Wile. “It’s a win for residents, builders, and staff.”
The portal is also accessible through each municipality’s own website.
