Property owners in Carberry, Manitoba, should keep an eye on their mailboxes this week. The Town of Carberry announced on June 8 that the 2026 property tax bills have been mailed out to every household in the community.
Taxes are due by September 30, and the town offers a few ways to save on the final bill. Residents who pay early can get a discount: 1.5 percent off if paid by June 30, 1 percent by July 31, and 0.5 percent by August 31. After the September 30 deadline, a 1.25 percent penalty is added on the first business day of each month until the bill is settled.
This year, many homeowners may see some extra relief right on their statement. The Manitoba government’s Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit, which helps offset school taxes, has been bumped up to a maximum of $1,600 for 2026. It’s applied directly to the tax bill for eligible residential properties. More information can be found on the Manitoba government website.
The town has made it simpler to pay, too. In addition to mailing a cheque, dropping off cash or debit in person at 44 Main Street, and using online banking, residents can now pay by credit card through OptionPay or send an e-transfer. Details are posted on the Town of Carberry property taxes page.
The tax mailing comes as the 2022-2026 town council, led by Mayor Raymond Muirhead, enters its final months. The five-member council includes councillors Debbie Rea, Samantha VanDamme, Ethan Downey Jr., John Anderson, and Lisa Dobbin-Waters, who won a March 17 byelection to fill the seat vacated by Mike Sudak’s resignation. Manitoba’s municipal elections are set for October 28, just a few weeks after the tax deadline.
