The Municipality of North Cypress-Langford, Manitoba is dealing with widespread overland flooding and washed-out roads after severe thunderstorms rolled through the region on June 29 and 30, 2026. The municipality posted urgent notices on June 30 warning residents about dangerous road conditions and closures, with some roads reopening by July 1.
Neepawa, which borders the municipality to the north, recorded 101 millimetres of rain during the storm. The heavy rainfall forced the evacuation of a local campground on Monday, June 29. “It’s totally flooded down there,” said Neepawa CAO Colleen Synchyshyn.
Highway 5 was closed between Neepawa and Highway 261 as of Tuesday morning, July 1, because of flooding, causing significant travel disruptions. The province is telling people to avoid non-essential travel across western Manitoba, including the Parkland region.
This is the second major flood to hit southwestern Manitoba in a month. Similar storms in early June caused extensive damage, and the province has already set up a Disaster Financial Assistance program for the June 2026 heavy rains, with applications open until September 9, 2026. Residents affected by flooding can apply for help with recovery costs.
Residents can check the latest road conditions and notices on the Municipality of North Cypress-Langford’s local notices page. Reeve Ray Drayson and CAO Teresa Parker are overseeing the local response, with the municipal office at 316 4th Avenue in Carberry available for information.
