Residents in Churchill, Manitoba, can move through their community again as of March 17, 2026, after local streets were cleared of snow. While weather conditions have improved for those in the town, the community remains physically separated from the rest of the provincial highway system.
The Manitoba 511 service reported no highway closures for the area because there is no year-round provincial road that leads to the town. Manitoba Infrastructure officials do not maintain a highway link to the region, leaving local streets as the only driving routes available to residents.
Because of its isolated location on the edge of Hudson Bay, the Town of Churchill relies on other ways to get people and goods in and out. According to Travel Manitoba, the community is reachable only by air or by the railway.
The Arctic Gateway Group operates the rail line, which serves as the primary connection for moving freight and passengers. Without a highway connection, these rail and air services remain the only way for residents to access other parts of the province.
