Residents of Churchill should prepare for a return of wintry weather this week as temperatures remain well below seasonal norms. According to Environment Canada, snowfall is expected in the community on Thursday, May 14, 2026, with 2 centimetres of accumulation in the forecast.
The upcoming snow follows a stretch of cold weather that has seen temperatures dipping between -5°C and 1°C. These figures are significantly cooler than the normal high of 3°C for mid-May. As of 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Churchill Airport recorded a temperature of -4.2°C under mostly cloudy skies.
Thursday’s forecast also calls for northeast winds at 30 km/h with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h, which will bring the wind chill down to near -11°C. There is also a risk of freezing rain accompanying the snow throughout the day.
While late spring snow is not unusual for the region, where snowfall typically occurs from mid-September through May, the current conditions are notably colder than average. The chilly pattern is expected to persist through the weekend, with daytime temperatures forecast to stay between -3°C and -2°C.
