The nomination period for the 2026 municipal and school board election in Collingwood, Ontario, is officially underway. Residents interested in running for a position on town council or the school board have until 2:00 p.m. on August 21, 2026, to file their nomination papers.
For the first time, the Town of Collingwood is making the process more convenient by allowing prospective candidates to book their required filing appointments online. Candidates must file their paperwork in person or through an agent at Town Hall, located at 97 Hurontario Street, with the help of a pre-booked slot.
The town is seeking candidates to fill 10 council positions, which include the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, and seven councillors, as well as school board trustee seats. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected in October will also serve on the County of Simcoe council. To run for the head of council, the filing fee is $200, while all other positions require a $100 fee.
Current Mayor Yvonne Hamlin has confirmed she will seek re-election when residents head to the polls on October 26, 2026. To assist those considering a run for office, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is hosting an information session on May 28, 2026, in Clearview Township.
