Drivers in Cornwall will need to slow down on Vincent Massey Drive as the city lowers speed limits along a busy east-west corridor, effective immediately.
The City of Cornwall announced the changes on August 14, 2026, citing more daily traffic and collisions. The new limits apply between Power Dam Drive and Oran Avenue.
The stretch has been split into three zones. From Power Dam Drive to Tollgate Road West and Laflin Street, the limit drops to 60 km/h from 80 km/h. Through the Tollgate Road West and Laflin Street intersection, it is now 60 km/h, down from 70 km/h. From Laflin Street to Oran Avenue, the limit falls to 50 km/h from 70 km/h.
New speed limit signs are being installed along the route. The city has posted a map of the changes on its website to help drivers understand the new zones.
This measure follows earlier efforts to address safety in the area. In 2023, traffic calming was approved for the nearby Power Dam Drive and Riverdale neighbourhood, where a survey found 15 percent of vehicles were travelling well over the posted 60 km/h limit.
Residents and commuters who regularly use Vincent Massey Drive are asked to watch for updated signage and adjust their driving habits accordingly. More information is available on the City of Cornwall website.
