In Cornwall, Ontario, a 63-year-old man was arrested on May 21, 2026, and charged after police received a public complaint about an impaired driver. The Cornwall Police Service said the case is a reminder that residents play an important role in reporting suspected impaired driving.
According to the Cornwall Police Service, officers located the vehicle and arrested the man after an investigation found he was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
The man was later released and is due to appear in court on June 16, 2026.
The arrest comes as impaired driving remains a concern across Canada. The Traffic Injury Research Foundation said self-reported impaired driving rose from 5.9 per cent in 2024 to 9.2 per cent in 2025.
Ontario also brought in stricter impaired-driving penalties on January 1, 2026, including longer roadside suspensions for some drivers and a longer look-back period for prior offences.
