The Cornwall Police Service arrested five people on April 15, 2026, on charges ranging from shoplifting and impaired driving to failing to appear in court.
Among those taken into custody was a 30-year-old woman charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. Police located the woman during an unrelated investigation. Her arrest comes shortly after the province introduced stricter impaired driving penalties on January 1, 2026, which include longer roadside licence suspensions, a broader look-back period for repeat incidents, and stricter long-term licence consequences.
Other arrests throughout the day involved two men charged with shoplifting, specifically theft under $5,000. Additionally, three individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court, with the missed appearances dating back to November 2025 and April 2026.
All five individuals have upcoming court dates scheduled in May 2026. The Cornwall Police Service, which operates with a mission to partner with the community for a positive impact on safety and wellbeing, continues to manage dozens of calls for service daily across the city.
